ABOUT

Expedition 44 is a covenant community devoted to forming people in the way of Jesus—rooted in Scripture, shaped in shared life, and expressed through compassionate action.

What began as a pursuit of deeper discipleship has grown into a global network of believers committed to living out a Christ-centered way of life together. Through teaching, small groups, gatherings, and ongoing formation, Expedition 44 exists to cultivate a people who not only believe the teachings of Jesus, but embody them in everyday life.

At its heart, Expedition 44 is not simply a platform or a program. It is a shared life—a community of people learning to walk faithfully with God and one another in the spirit of the early church.

Expedition 44 is a name layered with symbolic meaning drawn from Scripture, ancient covenant imagery, and biblical numerology. At its core is Psalm 144:1 (1441 embedded in the logo)—a confession that the Lord Himself is our Rock, shield, and deliverer, training our hands while we remain humble instruments fully reliant on Him rather than our own strength. (I should note that the verse itself is a contranym by which it implores relying on God to fight your battles rather than yourself.) The double “44” reflects the biblical pattern of 22 (completeness of God’s people) doubled into 44, echoing Isaiah’s “double portion” motif: we offer God our whole nephesh (our full life), and He multiplies that offering far beyond human capacity. The backward “4” in the emblem represents Christ’s counter-cultural, upside-down Kingdom where the first are last and true power is found in surrender. The crest-like shield design intentionally evokes an ancient covenant community identity, similar in ethos to groups like the Essenes, who lived set apart in disciplined devotion to God. Finally, the imagery resonates with ancient Israelite inscriptions such as those seen on the Mesha Stele in Paleo-Hebrew, grounding the movement in the texture of early biblical faith. Altogether, Expedition 44 signifies a lifelong communal journey of wholly offering one’s life to God and living as a set-apart people through whom He accomplishes far more than we ever could on our own. It is sort of the ancient idea or idiom of giving 110% of yourself.

Our community gathers regularly in rhythms that reflect the first-century church—devoted to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer.

This shared life takes shape through:

  • weekly gatherings and teaching
  • small group discipleship
  • retreats, conferences, and study intensives
  • biblical counseling and pastoral care
  • tangible support for individuals and families in need

We believe discipleship is not merely information—it is formation, lived out in relationship and expressed through love.

Expedition 44 operates without salaries, mortgages, or institutional overhead.

As a community, we steward what is given by directing it outward—serving people in real and practical ways in the spirit of Acts 2:42–47.

This includes:

  • biblical counseling and spiritual care
  • food and grocery provision
  • trauma support and crisis care
  • transportation assistance
  • and other forms of direct, relational aid

Generosity within Expedition 44 is not transactional—it is shared life. What is given becomes provision for others, reflecting the Kingdom life we seek to embody together.

Expedition 44 exists to cultivate a discipleship culture wholly devoted to King Jesus.

We believe the call of every believer is Christoformity—a life shaped into the likeness of Jesus in character, thought, and action. This vision stands at the center of everything we do: teaching, community, service, and outreach.

Our desire is to see a people formed in Christ who:

  • love God with devotion
  • love one another in covenant community
  • and love the world through tangible acts of mercy and truth

Expedition 44 was founded by Dr. Will Ryan and is led in partnership with His Wife Krista, Paul and Megghan Lazzaroni, Phil and Sarah Reynolds, Steve Cassell and co-host Matt and Aud Mouzakis (Eden to Eden) through teaching, pastoral oversight, and community development. There are so many others very dear to us that I am also very grateful for being such a rich part of the Expedition 44 heritage.

Together, they host the Expedition 44 teaching platform and guide the ongoing formation of the community through biblical theology, discipleship, and pastoral care.

We hold to the historic, orthodox confession of the Christian faith:

  • We believe in one God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—perfect in love and righteousness.
  • We believe Jesus Christ is the incarnate Son of God, who lived, died, and was raised for the salvation of the world.
  • We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired and authoritative Word of God, faithfully revealing God’s redemptive work.
  • We believe the Holy Spirit renews, restores, and forms the people of God, leading us into new life through faith in Christ.

These convictions ground our life together and shape our understanding of discipleship, community, and mission.

Expedition 44 is open to all who desire to pursue a deeper life with Christ within a community that is committed to Scripture, shared life, and tangible love.

Whether you are seeking formation, fellowship, or a place to serve, you are welcome to walk with us.
